Packt Publishing has just announced that Joomla has been voted best open source CMS for 2011. The Packt Open Source Awards is a yearly award that is presented to various open source projects. There are several categories of awards, and the Open Source CMS is perhaps the major one.
Sure thing, your host does keep backups. Usually, they are kept on a spare disk on the same physical server hosting your site. If you have a top-notch hosting provider, they may also keep separate backups on a network attached storage (NAS) device. But this is not a fail-safe approach. What about if the server machine goes does or gets accidentally seized by the FBI? What if the host goes out of business? What if the host gets hacked and your sites disappears? If you think that these scenarios are far-fetched, ask the owners of the sites affected by these real world cases. They thought the host-provided backups were enough. Newsflash: they weren’t.
So to prove that Joomla templates aren't exactly in the same category as nuclear fission, let's build the world's most basic Joomla template. If you're thinking that this isn't at all possible in a somewhat short, friendly newsletter, you'll be surprised.
